Where are you from? 1 // Soweto // 2005

During a residency at the BagFactoryJohannesburg, 15oct/15dec 2005. Sipho and Mbuso write questions starting by WHERE. I reply by short films about my daily life. The project is about my highly visible presence here, as a foreign white man, and about the related imaginaries. In such a context (where few people travel abroad), it turns also into a dialog around the idea of mokili (the world in Lingala). The ‘mikilists’, especially in Kinshasa, are those who have seen the world, seen landscapes. And who have to « confirm » (prove) they were there, by relating. And make dream people who didnt travel.
